Artist Statement

Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. In college I earned an AA in Fine Art and a BA in Interior Design. I'm able to continue learning about, and share my love of art as a docent at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. I have created hundreds of custom watercolor House and Pet Portraits for clients, have been commissioned to create several sidewalk murals in downtown Grand Rapids, and also create larger scale abstract paintings. My work has been shown at The Grand Rapids Art Museum, Lions and Rabbits Center for the Arts, the First United Methodist Church, and Frames Unlimited.

Information About The Art

Art Title:	In My Head
Art Description:	In My Head is a visual representation of what it feels like to live inside my brain. Thoughts, ideas, and problems all swirl around in broken bits, bumping into each other, ricocheting, twisting, always moving. Some resolved issues escape out past the frame, while others are held in to be dealt with before they can be released. The large white circle at the top, a strong and solid shape, represents conscience and the guiding principles that help me to work through the tangled commotion.The black and white areas represent positive and negative thoughts, while bright, happy colors are interwoven with darker, moodier colors. Ideally, they are all in balance, holding each other in check. The prevalent gold color represents the personal sacredness of humanity- who we are, who we have fought and worked to become, and how we interact with the chaos life can bring.
